Pediatric Dentistry
Family means a lot to our patients, staff, and community. At Wamego Dental Center, we cherish the little joys that come with watching children grow. From their first dental visit to watching them hit all their important milestones, we look forward to every special moment.
The children's dentists at our Wamego, KS dental office understand that kids have particular dental needs. Dr. Paul Harris, Dr. Andrea Harris, and Dr. Kyung Ha Kim are family dentists who create a warm and welcoming atmosphere so that children (and their parents) have positive feelings about going to the dentist.
We know how to talk to our youngest patients so that they feel at ease, while also teaching them about the importance of good oral health and hygiene. Treating children from birth through adolescence to young adulthood is a joy for us, and we always work through any dental anxieties with patience and compassion. When it's time for your child to have an orthodontic evaluation or wisdom teeth extraction, you will know they are in good hands.
If you are looking for kind and welcoming family dentists, look no further than the team at Wamego Dental Center. We invite you to schedule your baby's first dental visit with us.
At What Age Should I Bring My Child to the Dentist?
Your child's relationship with the dentist and oral health starts early. By creating a wholesome and engaging environment, even our littlest patients are excited to visit.
The best time for us to see your baby is about when their teeth begin to emerge, or at least by three years of age. We highly encourage that you bring your child to your own dental cleanings so we can take a quick look at their development and acclimate them to our dental office.
At Wamego Dental Center, we are honored to have the experience of making your little one smile and develop trust in dental professionals as they grow.
What Will My Baby's First Dental Visit Be Like?
Your son's or daughter's very first dental visit is a very special milestone for them and us. By being gentle and relaxed, we can avoid any fearful feelings. Drs. Paul Harris, Andrea Harris, and Kyung Ha Kim will talk through the appointment and explain what they are doing in age-appropriate language your little one understands.
We allow your child to gradually get used to the sounds and sights of a dental office. We will count teeth together and go over how to handle a toothbrush properly. We'll make their first dental exam enjoyable and educational.
This is also an excellent time for parents to ask any questions and get a refresher course on brushing and flossing. We recommend that you supervise while kids brush and floss until they are at least eight when their dexterity improves.
Stopping Cavities Before They Start
At Wamego Dental Center, dental cleanings are an essential function for keeping your child's smile beautiful. Teeth cleanings allow us to get rid of plaque and tartar that builds up between visits.
Digital x-rays allow us to see signs of trouble that are invisible to the naked eye. We check for tell-tale signs of infection, cavities, gingivitis, and more. We also keep an eye on their permanent teeth and if there are any issues before they emerge.
Oral health also extends to diet and nutrition, and we are always happy to discuss tooth-friendly foods.
As Your Little One Grows
Your child will need different dental treatments and services as they get older and reach new milestones.
Some young children experience tooth decay. Food debris can cling to the teeth and become acidic enough to erode the enamel.
Your Wamego children's dentists can eliminate any plaque or contributors to tooth decay. We provide tooth-colored fillings so that your child has confidence in their smiles. Your child will never feel discomfort or pain while they are with us.
Children who have high instances of cavities can benefit greatly from dental sealants. Sealants are a clear coating that we brush on the surface of the teeth to protect deep grooves from bacteria. This procedure can last for 3-5 years and is non-invasive.
