Root Canals

Imagine going about your day when you start noticing some sensitivity to your morning coffee. By the end of the day, it's turned into a very noticeable toothache, and your dentist at Wamego Dental Center tells you that a root canal is necessary.

You're worried that it will hurt, but that couldn't be further from the truth!

Our experienced dentists have helped hundreds of patients in similar situations, and we are experienced in making sure this dental procedure is comfortable and stress-free

Root Canals Don't Hurt

Many Wamego patients fear being told they need a root canal because they associate it with a lot of pain. The truth is, the pain you feel is infection or decay that has gotten inside your tooth, and it won't go away until it is treated by a dental professional. A root canal can make your pain go away while saving your tooth.

Patients shouldn't feel any discomfort at all during the procedure. We also use modern electric tools to make our treatment efficient and quick.

We also offer nitrous oxide for patients who have dental anxiety or fear. Nitrous puts our patients in a very dreamy mood, but they are still able to respond to our dentist and communicate. Once the procedure is over, they can return to their day.

Patients with deeper anxiety might be interested in oral sedation; they can take a prescribed pill about an hour before the procedure. Since this sedation can linger in your system for hours, we ask that patients have drivers after the appointment.

Root canals also preserve as much of your natural tooth as we can, and it saves your tooth from being extracted.

The Root Canal Process

We begin the procedure by numbing your tooth with a local anesthetic, so you only feel some pressure. This also relieves any pain you might have, which makes this procedure very attractive.

Our dentists will get rid of any infected or damaged tissue before placing a dental crown to protect and strengthen it. The dental crown seals in the tooth and prevents bacteria or food particles from entering and reinfecting.

Preventing Root Canals

Root canals aren't what anyone wants to hear they need, but we can go a long way to preventing them.

Prevention is very straightforward; patients should see us at the Wamego Dental Center at least every six months so we can identify and treat infection and decay as soon as it starts. If left untreated, cavities can travel throughout your tooth or even neighboring teeth.

Are You Experiencing Tooth Pain?

Tooth pain is never normal, and it should not be ignored. Often, a painful tooth is an indicator of decay, infection, gum disease, or more. We never recommend waiting until the pain goes away; it is a clear sign that you need to see our dentists right away to avoid tooth loss.

Contact Wamego Dental Center to arrange an oral exam with our dentists, Dr. Paul Harris, Dr. Andrea Harris, and Dr. Kyung Ha Kim. We look forward to treating you!
